(ANSA) – Rome, October 23 – Sophia Loren’s lawyer said the famous Italian film star was “happy” about the ruling filed Tuesday by the supreme Court of Cassation on a tax case dating back to 1974.

“Finally a story that has lasted 40 years has come to a close,” commented Loren’s lawyer, Giovanni Desideri. The court accepted the actress’s appeal against a Roman court that had ordered her to pay taxes on 70% of her ascertained income for 1974.

Loren, whose real name is Sofia Scicolone, had argued she should pay taxes on 60%.

On May 19, 1982, Loren was arrested when she landed in Rome’s Fiumicino airport travelling from her family’s home in Switzerland.

She spent 17 days in prison for failing to declare her income.
